English

One of the main parts of any wooden structure is its joints, which must meet the requirements for bearing applied loads. Wood welding is a new technology that has made it possible to produce wood joints with considerable strength without the use of glue. Therefore, this research aims to investigate and compare the withdrawal resistance of dowel wood joints made by the welding method and the method using glue. In this research, the species of joint member (Hornbeam and Fir), type of dowel joint (welded joint and joint with polyvinyl acetate glue), dowel diameter (10 and 12 mm), and dowel surface shape (smooth and grooved) were considered as variables. After preparing the specimens, the dowel withdrawal resistance test was performed. The results of the analysis of variance showed that the independent effects of joint member, joint type, surface shape, and dowel diameter on dowel withdrawal resistance were significant at the 1% level. The results showed that, for all studied variables, the withdrawal resistance of welded dowel joints was greater than that of joints made with polyvinyl acetate glue, indicating the superiority of wood welding technology over the use of this glue.
