Abstract

In this study, the effect of stand-off distance on the shape and microstructure of the interface of Ms90 brass / St14 steel / Ms90 brass was been investigated using the constant explosive charge and according to the welding window of both metals. The welding tests were carried out in parallel set-up geometry. The microstructural and metallurgical studies were carried out with optical and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results show that the shape of the interface changes from smooth to wavy interface with the stand-off distance. Moreover, the wavelength and amplitude sizes are increased with the stand-off distance. By considering the probable phase composition at the interface, the EDS analysis shows the presence of no intermetallic component in the plastic zone in any interfaces.
