Abstract

in this study nanocomposites based on Nb2AlC ternary compound with Al2O3 reinforcing synthesized via self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) and Mechanical-Activated self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (MASHS) by using of Nb2O5, Al, Al4C3 powders. The main chemical formula form; 3Nb2O5+9Al+Al4C3=3Nb2AlC+5Al2O3 was considered. To synthesize the nanocomposites in SHS method used of tube furnace atmosphere controlled and for MASHS in addition used of high energy ball milling (to activating the powders ) with 10:1 (BPR) in 1 h. The desired phases detected by x-ray diffraction patterns (XRD) and also scanning electron microscope (SEM) showed the nanolayer microstructure of Nb2AlC ternary compound with Al2O3 nanoparticles.
