Abstract

In the present work the possibility of production glass-ceramics from the slag of ladle furnace in Iron Alloyed Steel Company for utilization of slags in SiO2-Al2O3-Cao-MgO system was investigated. Furthermore, Silica and Alumina as additives and TiO2, Fe2O3 and Cr2O3 for nucleation were used to the steel slag.
Row materials and steel slag were mixed in Alumina crucible and heated at 1450∘C in an Electrical Furnace for one hour to melt in experiments. The molten slags were casted in a pre-heated steel mold and then cooled up to room temperature.
The crystallization behavior of glass samples were studied by differential thermal analysis. The glass products were heat treated at different time, nucleation and grain growth temperature . The obtained results represented that the main phases are Diopside and Wollustonite in this system. The best temperature and time for heat-treatment were 820∘C and 3 hours, while for nucleation were 850 ∘C and 3 hours respectively. The results of hardness test and bending strength confirmed the conclusion.
