Abstract

In injection molding (IM) process, the feedstock rheological properties are key features which influence the steady flow and the uniform filling into the mold. In this research, the aim was the studying of the effect of Al2O3 and surfactant on rheological properties of Mg/Al2O3 feedstocks. For this purpose a binder system containing Paraffin wax (PW), Bees wax (BW), and Stearic acid (SA) was selected and flow characteristics of the compound of aforementioned binder and pure Mg-Al2O3 composite powdervia a rotary rheometer at the shear rate of 0.1-1000s-1and temperature of 84ºC were investigated. The results indicatedall feedstocks have pseudo plastic behavior. Also, the amount of flow index (n) of feedstocks strongly varies by changing the composition of binder, it shows that binder's composition has a major effect on the viscosity's sensibility to temperature. Although by adding the reinforcement, the amount of activation energy severely change and causes better properties for molding by IM.
