Abstract

In this study PZT nano powders have been synthesized via sol-gel process. Zirconium n-propoxide, tetraisopropylorthotitanate and lead acetate trihydrate were desolvedseparately in ethylene glycol mono methyl ether after mixing all the solutions together and modifying the pH to 5, the gel formed. This gel was dried for 2 days and calcined at different temperatures for 1h. FESEM and XRD techniques were used to characterize the samples. The XRD pattern clearly showed the perovskite phase at 600°C. The size of the powder formed by this method was 30 to 80 nm in diameter. PZT disks sintered at 1200°C for 2h exhibited a dielectric constant of 870 at 1 kHz frequency.
