Cordierite (2MgO, 2Al2O3, 5SiO2) is one of the compounds in the MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 triplet diagram. Given that the cordierite glass-ceramics have the following properties: low dielectric constant, very low thermal expansion, low Loss factor, refractory, chemical and mechanical stability are appropriate, the most important phase in the MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 triplet diagram is considered. These features also Cordierite for use in many applications, including: furnace equipment, thermal shock resistant containers, refractory coatings on metal substrates, as Radom in the military industry and many industrial applications have become. In this research, α-cordierite was synthesized using the solid state reaction method oxide powder (Al2O3, MgO and SiO2) and silicone resin MK. X-ray diffraction test was used to study the formed phases. α-cordierite was synthesized at 1300 °C, and with an elevated temperature up to 1400 °C, the amount of α-cordierite also increased. By performing the micro vickers hardness test, it was observed that the obtained hardness was equal to 12.35 GPa. To study the flexural strength the three-point bending flexural test used and flexural strength of 62±3.6 MPa was obtained. Also, the dielectric constant 3.18-3.22 was obtained in the frequency range of 11-12.5 GHz and the loss tangent 0.001-0.005 for the synthesized α-cordierite.
